Award-Winning Innovation: Nosco’s Flexible Packaging Recognized by FPA

March 28, 2025

Nosco is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Gold Achievement Award for Expanding the Use of Flexible Packaging by the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) in the 69th Annual Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards Competition. This accolade marks Nosco’s continued recognition by the FPA for its innovations in printed flexible packaging solutions.

TOOTHBRUSH POUCH EARNS GOLD

The award-winning flexible toothbrush pouch earned a Gold Achievement Award for its exceptional design. Created in partnership with Preserve, an eco-friendly products company, and its CMO, Perrigo, the pouch features a matte finish and an improved hanger hole.

The Preserve team recently accepted the award and shared their appreciation. Chief Operating Officer John Lively and founder Eric Hudson said, “We appreciate the award a great deal. The improvements we made from our prior supplier’s pouch to now have been great.”

Since hitting shelves, the redesigned pouch has driven exponential growth. Trader Joe’s reported a 16% increase in sales, a remarkable feat for a product that has been on shelves since 2000. The toothbrush has especially resonated with younger generations who value the brand’s sustainability efforts including its B Corp Certification.

Global Sourcing and Sustainability Manager at Perrigo Sinéad Gavin also praised the collaboration, noting the strong communication between all teams involved.

Award-Winning Innovation

This durable, custom-engineered pouch blends polypropylene films and a polyethylene laminate to provide a strong product barrier while maintaining a sleek matte finish. Additionally, digital printing allowed for vibrant graphics, and strong shelf appeal.

“We are honored to be recognized by the FPA for our work on this printed packaging innovation,” said Bill Nimmer, Nosco Packaging Advisor. “It’s exciting to provide real-world examples of how flexible packaging can help reduce the environmental impact and help transition brands from thermoformed trays to flexible packaging.”

FPA received 67 package entries, with a total of 226 total entries across all categories, including cross-category submissions. “This was one of our favorite packages that was submitted, and it won a gold because of its ability to expand into a whole category that traditionally has a paperboard backing with a plastic cover for the toothbrush,” said an FPA judge, Chris Lyons. He continued noting that the pouch is beautiful and provides an excellent opportunity for a small billboard for print production on both sides of the flexible pouch.
