Packaging in the Midst of COVID-19: Health & Safety Practices

Nosco is taking every precaution to help stop the global spread of COVID-19, and reduce the risk of exposure in the workplace. To do so, our operations and safety teams are following all OSHA and CDC recommendations, as well as implementing several other initiatives to boost morale and keep employees informed during this difficult time.

Outlined below are some of Nosco’s ongoing health and safety practices:

Reducing the Number of Employees in “Essential” Operations

  • Eliminating outside persons from entering plants – with exception protocol.
  • Ramping up work-from-home efforts for office and support personnel.

Creating Space in Our Facilities

  • Ensuring all remaining office personnel are spaced in accordance with CDC guidelines.
  • Communicating expectations of spacing in usual high-traffic areas, including providing visual “cues” painted on the floor.
  • Spreading / eliminating some seating in common areas, like lunchrooms.
  • Staggering lunch, break and shift turnover times.
  • Physically spreading out workstations, where possible.

Taking Extra Health and Safety Measures

  • Daily temperature checks for every individual prior to entering production.
  • Required face masks / coverings.
  • Multiple hand sanitation and washing stations in every facility.
  • Gloves provided (optional – not appropriate in all operations).
  • Individual workstations outfitted with CDC-compliant diluted bleach solution.

Establishing Additional Cleaning Protocols

  • Implementation of 3x/day cleaning protocols for all shared areas and common surfaces (door handles, time clocks, restrooms, break areas, etc.).
  • Equipment wipe downs at all shift changes.
  • Deep cleaning (external vendor) for specific concerns raised through employee feedback.

Ensuring Frequent and Open Communication

  • High-frequency updates on what we’re doing, why we’re doing it and COVID-19 data from relevant areas / states.
  • Videos that demonstrate company changes and expectations.
  • Frequent memos with updates (general and specific).
  • Weekly (or more) calls with key personnel to discuss best practices, how things are going, changes and the like.

Amping Up Recognition Efforts

  • Company provided lunches for those working in-person at facilities.
  • Bonus incentives for those working in-person at facilities.
  • Many, many “thank yous” throughout all communications.
  • Recognizing our heroes by name.
